Aho Faiumu?

Hey everyone, just doing Unit 3 and I saw "Aho Faiumu". I remember Aho from monuina e aho, but what's Faiumu? I'm guessing it's not like "good oven" or something but I'm not sure.

Hey Pita, I’m still slow on some of these too but I think 'Aho Faiumu' is more like a phrase to match with 'Happy birthday' in Unit 3. I remember using 'Monuina e aho fanau haau' for happy birthday. Not sure about 'Faiumu' exactly though. Have you tried saying 'Ko e aho fanau ha Mele' from Unit 9? It’s a bit clearer when it shows it’s about birthdays.

Yeah, I saw "Monuina e aho fanau haau" too. I just don't know why they put "Aho Faiumu" with it if it's not another way to say birthday. I'm trying to remember all the different ones so I don't mix them up, you know? Like, what does "fānau" mean on its own? I saw that in Unit 1.

Yeah, 'fānau' means 'child' or 'to give birth' I think, so it relates to birthdays but not the same. I’m slowly getting that too. Also, did you notice 'monuina e aho' means 'have a good day'? It’s used in greetings beyond just birthdays. Do you find it tricky to remember when to use each phrase or am I just slow?

No, I find it tricky too, especially with the 'e aho' part. I saw in Unit 1 that 'monuina e pō' means 'Good night' so I guess 'aho' is like 'day', but I always second-guess myself. I guess 'aho fanau' would be 'day of birth' then, if 'fānau' means 'child'.
